About Us
This website is run by volunteers who are interested in the preservation and history of the U-Haul Camper. This group was originally started by Mr. Ray Horner (U-Haul Camper) as a Yahoo Group and was run by Ray. In 2005, the current site administrator (Jim) approached Ray Horner to move the group to a self run website. Ray and Jim worked together to move the group from the Yahoo platform to an open-source bulletin board. Ray assumed the day to day operations of the site, including moderation, and expansion of new information. Ray’s previous work experience included extensive work in the recreational vehicle industry, which made him an excellent resource for information and ideas. Ray recruited Forest (ForestField) to be a board moderator.
In 2006, Ray Horner disappeared from the group. His e-Bay store (selling RV parts and supplies) was shut down, and his phone and e-mail accounts were all disconnected. He has had no further contact with the group.
In 2008 Jim started to solicit donations from site users to help off-set the costs of running the website. Although many members of the group stepped up to donate to keep the site open, the donations did not continue to offset the costs of running the website.
For nearly 5 years, Jim and Forest have continued to maintain the group as much as possible with the absence of the founder, Ray Horner. Jim continues to provide technical support and Forest continues to act as a “Global Moderator”.
We are currently looking at several options for the future of this website, including re-opening content to all users.
